This morning, as I sit down to write my slice, the last of the 31 day challenge, I think of the words I read yesterday on Alice’s blog. She wrote about moments that herald ”the beginning of the end”. This morning feels like that, and yet, I also know that endings make way for new beginnings. I’m planning on keeping my slicing life going with Tuesday slices - after writing and posting daily for a month, posting weekly must be luxurious! This month has been challenging, invigorating, eye-opening, and rejuvenating. There have been lots of gifts. Here are my big takeaways:
Writing every day really helps you write every day! There’s simply been less time for me to get caught up in my own head. I’ve been paralyzed on the page plenty of times, wanting it to be ‘just so’ before it’s seen by other eyes. There’s no time for that with this challenge.
Feedback matters so much! When I receive thoughtful comments on my posts, I feel energized and want to write more. It’s helped me be more thoughtful in my commenting on other writers’ posts.
Paying attention to the small moments in a day opens the door for writing possibilities! It’s what I teach my student writers; now I’m practicing what I preach.
Technology can be tricky! News flash, I know. But I’m new to the world of blogging and commenting. I just discovered that when someone comments and I see that they ‘liked’ my comment, I can go back to their site and they may have corresponded with me through my comment. I hope to get savvier at this part. I love the exchange.
People are generous! I know this and experience it daily, but it was brought home to me, yet again, with this challenge. From welcome wagon members to fellow newbies to the TWT team members who responded to questions so eloquently, I felt supported and held during this process.
Thank you. I’ve loved reading about the moments in your lives, fellow slicers.
